100 Club

Southern Befrienders 100 Club is a great way to support your local Manx charity and a chance to win cash* prizes!

It costs just £5 per month to join our 100 Club. Every quarter, we work out how much is in the total “pot”, then half the pot goes to Southern Befrienders and the remaining half is shared between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners.

As more people join the 100 Club, there is more in the “pot”, which is great news for the charity and the prize winners!

LEGACY & DONATIONS

To run this service, we employ four part-time members of staff who support befrienders and service users through regular contact via befriending or our social events.  They also assist with fundraising and raising awareness of the organisation.

We help older people live independent lives for just under £10 per week per service user.  We receive a small grant from the Isle of Man Government Department of Social Care and rely on fundraising and donations for the rest.  Any gifts or legacies make a real difference to the organisation.

  • £50 will cover the expenses involved in getting 15 older people to a monthly lunch club.
  • £150 will cover the cost of a bus trip for 16 people.
  • £500 will help us to train up to 30 student volunteers.

Book Nook

The Book Nook, is on the ground floor of Thie Rosien on Castletown Road, Port Erin, is primarily for books, but there are also DVDs and jigsaws for sale. Hundreds of excellent books have been donated by the local community, including classic and modern novels, hobbies, travel, sports, gardening, cookery and children’s. The Book Nook is open when Thie Rosien is open, Monday to Saturday. All books are wiped with anti-bac before being put on the shelves. Most cost £1 and there is an honesty box for donations.

The Book Nook is kept well stocked and ordered by our volunteer librarian, Christine Ormond. The Book Nook is an excellent source of funds for the charity with over £1,500 being raised in a year.
